2013 was such a year for me in so many ways I could talk about how it was all day. From starting my new job on the 7th of January, to the end of The Year of Slow Fashion, starting 2 separate business and getting heavily involved in another (more on that to come in 2014) I have had a whirlwind of a year! I almost even considered quitting blogging and am so thankful I didn't. It is something entirely MINE and I love doing it. In the chaos around that I realized how personal my blog is to me and how much having small personal goals is so important. So anyway, I wanted to take some time to recall the past year and enjoy some of the lighter moments month by month. So here we go:
I had a fun opportunity to be photographed for Veggie Girls Gone Pin-Up Vegan Calendar. My pictures didn't make the cut but I got to be photographed with Kale and dressed up by Moxie Salons with a rad vintage up do and makeover! It was so much fun!
My favorite outfit post from January was when i spent some time with my girl at Everythings Always Sunny. She moved away and I miss her wonderful skills and kind friendship. I think of her always and hope to make more efforts to get together in the new year. She is so inspirational and a wonderful friend! I miss her!
In February I adopted Orchid from my work. She would follow me around when let out of her cage and we had actual conversations (I know..I am the crazy cat lady...). She fits perfectly in my home and is really my moms cat now. She has the perfect 'torti-tude' as I have coined because tortoiseshell kitties have serious attitude.
I made these 'dog pants' after one of my favorite bloggers Cat Shorts. Floral Prints and Common Sense. I wear them all the time for work events and things and people LOVE them! They were so fun to make.
In March I spent lots of time with family and friends and relaxing. I worked of course but after a few months of more than full time working I took a few break days. It was necessary. This photo was taken at my aunts house. She has the greatest porch ever, overlooking this gorgeous small lake. Visiting her house always feels like home.
I also made my first animated GIF (which isn't working from flickr...check out the original post) and wore red lipstick for the first time ever not on stage dancing or in a show! It was really fun. This month I really decided I wanted to be a professional photographer and started checking out books like crazy and reading way more photography blogs. The work began....
In April I did a lot of self recollection and talked a lot about self hate. It is something I have always struggled with in a very negative light and I learned that instead of it being negative it can be extremely motivating. I learned a lot about turning negative thoughts into goals and sticking to them. It really changed my outlook on a lot of things.
I also had a great opportunity to guest blog over at one of my idols - Peacoats and Plaid. It was my first experience doing so and it was so wonderful! I really got down to the nitty gritty of how to 'slow your style' and talked about what would be to come after the year of slow fashion was over.
I also was interviewed for one of my favorite websites about slow fashion. Slow fashioned!!! I felt very privileged to get a chance to tell my story. I had a month full of awesome PR going on and was so thankful!
In May I traveled to Portland to visit my boyfriend and had a blast. The west coast is so fun especially this area, I even met some awesome bloggers and had some awesome photo experiences. The best was seeing a guy with a cat on his shoulder..no big deal? I also ended up completing a 30 day yoga challenge despite my trip (30 classes in 30 days). It was exhausting but I was at the peak of my health for the year! One of my many 'resolutions' is too keep a yoga schedule both at home and in class. Classes keep me going but I need to have enough at home work to do. I am also partnering with my friend who wants to start a yoga business to do some photography for her this year. I am really excited to see what comes from it!
I also was featured in an article about American made clothing for Shore Magazine! I also got to include my greatest fashion friend Todd from TENDEN and he was featured too. This experience was so great as I love sharing the mission of slow fashion and buying local.
I also saw Lily and Rue Vintage begin to develop. I had intended to pour myself into it from then on out but have since let it fall away. It is one of my goals for 2014 to get this back up and running with some exciting new news about it as well!
In June I made a quick DIY tribal short because I was so obsessed with all of the Fast Fashion versions!
I was then invited to a pre-screening of the movie Bling Ring. It was so cool to get to see the movie before everyone else and have the chance to publish my review! It is definitely one of those movies that makes you think about the problems related to wanting things.....
I spent a lot of time in the garden which next year I am making into a small business. My dad is giving me 2 acres to do with what I want! I really miss farming and using my education, I have big plans and not a lot of time so I am hoping my resolve to good health will give me more energy to do all I want to with this opportunity!
In July I visited Lake Geneva and took my favorite picture of the year.
I also picked a lot of blackberries and watched a lot of pumpkins grow. I enjoyed more of my Aunts porch with her annual porch party watching my uncle and mom sing and play music. These memories still stick with me and I hope they do for the rest of my life. I love my family and am so thankful to get to spend so much time with them.
August was a crazy month of reflection. I had my 10 year high school reunion which was fun and weird all rolled together. I had a ton of fun with everyone, people I both still talk to and those I don't and people I didn't ever really talk to. It was nice to see how every ones lives are progressing after 10 years of being apart. I also got a mug from my bank I joined my Freshman year of college for my 10 years with them...all this made me feel incredibly old but grateful for still being here. My class lost a lot of people in High School and I know I personally am grateful for every moment and think of them all the time.
August also called for the end of The Year of Slow Fashion. It was really fun to call an end to the year but that meant many struggles for me I didn't expect. Not having a 365 challenge really reduced my creativity and inspiration for the blog. I have found a bit of it back now but am still searching for that THING i need to keep me excited. I love the day to do of the blog but have realized I am a long term goal maker.
The month of relaxation. I only posted 2 times this whole month and took a lot of time to relax. I died my hair blonde and had a lot of fun with it. I started up my photography business and took on my first clients. I loved every minute of it and cannot wait for my next gig!
The month of CHAOS! With the pumpkin patch, a full time job, blogging and photography I don't think I sat still for even a minute.
I also made my second GIF because why not! I had a bus, some bales of hay and my mom to take the photos :)
Also my hair turned purple and I had a blast with it.
In November I took my purple hair to Nashville! I love the music, the people and they even had TONS of vegan food options! I didn't meet up with any bloggers which was disappointing but I should have tried harder.
I also photographed my first wedding. It was tough because it was night time and indoors but I made the best of it and had a blast.
In December I went back to brown hair. It was tough on my hair all the bleaching and coloring. I chopped off quite a bit of it and its growing like crazy now. Honestly I miss the fun of funky hair color but there was nothing 'slow' about it.
I also had the chance to take professional photos at our 'Santa Paws' event. Honestly I didn't want to do it because I am still learning but now I am so glad that no other photographers could commit. I realized I love taking photos of animals and ended up getting a few clients out of it. My first pet photo shoot is this upcoming weekend and I am beyond excited. I got a new camera and tons of gear for Christmas and have been loving using it.
I spent the rest of my December dreaming up new ideas for all of my adventures. I cannot wait to see what the new year has in store. I may take a few days off the blog as I am heading to the east side to watch the Winter Classic tomorrow. I am currently dreaming up a New Years Resolution 365 project. I don't do well with 'New Years Resolutions' But my thought is if i make a resolution EVERY DAY and publish it I may learn even more about myself. I am not sure how i will do this, on the blog, facebook or instagram but I am working up the idea. This year taught me a lot about myself and what I want. I cannot wait to begin making those things happen in 2014.
